About us

Doping Control Laboratory of Romania takes pride in being the only WADA accredited laboratory in the southeastern Europe. It has been founded in August 1983 and it initially functioned within the structure of the National Institute for Sport Research under the National Sport Agency.

Doping means the use by athletes of some prohibited substances or methods, with the aim of increasing their effort capacity.

Mission and objectives

The mission of Doping Control Laboratory is to actively involve in eradicating doping in sport and playing a clean sport in compliance with the fair-play principles. The activity of prevention and fight against doping phenomenon with the aim of playing a “clean sport” should be seen in its real complexity and significance, by approaching all aspects and factors involved in this field. Within this strategy, the laboratory’s objectives are the following:

  • Efficiency

Increasing the doping control analyses efficiency by implementing the WADA requirements

Maintaining both WADA accreditation and ISO 17025 accreditation

Promoting and supporting doping control researches

    The athlete’s biological passport concept has been initiated and launched by World Anti-Doping Agency on 1st of December 2009.
